Unrivaled Regional Highlights Across the Serengeti Ecosystem
1. South Serengeti & Ndutu Area: The Migration Calving Grounds
The southern sector, particularly Ndutu, hosts a major wildlife chapter. Between December and March, huge herds assemble on volcanic soils. Visitors during this window witness the calving season, where thousands of calves are born daily. Consequently, this high density of prey attracts apex predators like lions, cheetahs, and hyenas executing strategic hunts.
2. Central Serengeti (Seronera): Big Cats & Tree-Climbing Lions
Positioned along the Seronera River valley, Central Serengeti is celebrated as the predator capital. Riverine woodlands and ancient granite kopjes create ideal habitats for big cats. Here, guests regularly spot leopards in acacia branches and lions atop rock outcrops. Moreover, Central hosts rare tree-climbing lions, elephants, hippos, and abundant birdlife.
3. North Serengeti & Kogatende: The Great Mara River Crossings
Extending to the Kenyan border, North Serengeti presents a wild wilderness with rolling hills. Between July and October, migration herds face a dangerous obstacle: crossing the Mara River. Watching thousands of wildebeest plunge into torrential currents while crocodiles await is thrilling. Additionally, the surrounding wilderness offers intense game viewing away from crowds.
4. Ngorongoro Crater: The World’s Largest Intact Volcanic Caldera
Completing this circuit is a descent into the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Containing a self-sustaining ecosystem inside a 600-meter caldera, the floor offers high wildlife densities. It remains one of the few places where you can spot the African Big Five in a single afternoon.
